Frequently Asked Questions
Home health care is medical care, such as nursing or therapy, that is usually ordered by a doctor and provided by licensed clinicians. Home care, which is what Acuity Homecare provides, is non-medical. It means help with everyday life: personal care like bathing and dressing, meals, light housekeeping, errands, companionship, and respite for family caregivers. Many families use both, and our caregivers work alongside your loved one’s medical team. Not sure which you need? Call 203-295-0274 and we’ll help you sort it out.
No. Acuity Homecare is a non-medical homemaker-companion agency, registered with the Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection (HCA.0001496). Our caregivers do not provide medical or nursing services, and they do not handle or administer medication. They can give friendly reminders to take medications as prescribed. Your loved one’s doctors and other healthcare providers stay in charge of their medical care. We support the routines and plans they set.
Hourly care brings a caregiver for scheduled shifts, for example mornings, mealtimes, or a few days a week. It is billed by the hour, and hourly caregivers stay awake and working for their whole shift. Live-in care places a caregiver in the home who provides help throughout the day and is there at night for reassurance. It is billed at a flat daily rate, and live-in caregivers get 8 hours of sleep in every 24 plus regular breaks. Hourly care suits people who need help at certain times. Live-in care suits people who need someone close by most of the time. Call us and we’ll help you decide which fits, and you can change later as needs change.
We walk through the living areas inside the home, the outside of the home, and the surrounding areas, looking for everyday hazards. Examples include fall risks, lighting, bathroom safety, clutter and trip hazards, and entryways. Afterward we share practical suggestions, and we can recommend home modifications and connect you with local resources to have them done. The assessment is free, and you don’t have to sign up for care. Call 203-295-0274 to schedule one.
In most cases, care can start within 24 to 48 hours after you call. More notice always helps us match the right caregiver to your loved one, so if you can see a need coming, such as a return home from the hospital or a family caregiver’s upcoming trip, call us early. We are available 24/7 at 203-295-0274.
We accept private pay and long-term care insurance. If your loved one has a long-term care insurance policy, have it handy when you call, and we can talk through the next steps together. Costs depend on the type and amount of care your loved one needs, and we’re happy to go over them during your free consultation.
